General Manager Finance
General Manager Finance at Equity Bank December, 2022
GM Finance is responsible for the financial strategy, financial condition, and position of the bank which requires personnel with extensive knowledge and experience to strengthen financial discipline in banking operations.

On day-to-day activities, the GM Finance will be responsible for all the Bank’s fiscal operating results utilizing generally accepted accounting principles, such as cost accounting, budgets, and regulatory agency and government reports ensuring the safeguard of Bank assets. Advise senior management on fiscal control and profitability; prepares, presents, and interpret financial reports to senior management and the Board.

GM Finance will ensure the Bank adheres to tax laws and regulatory compliance to properly reflect the financial position of the Bank.
GM Finance will also provide leadership to the finance, procurement, and administration functions within the department.
This job reports to the Managing Director and the incumbent shall function in accordance with the applicable policies and regulation.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITY
Plan and coordinate the implementation of effective accounting and financial administration policies, procedures, and reports to ensure meticulous compliance with the Bank’s financial policy for sound financial management and control of the bank
As a member of senior management, GM Finance shall assist the MD and the Board of Directors in:
  • Providing strategic direction to the institution through strategy formulation, decision-making, forecast/budgeting, and its implementation/monitoring ii. To ensure the achievement of revenue targets in line with budget iii. Establish and implement internal controls and ensure efficient and effective financial operations as per industry benchmarks.
  • Ensure that Financial and Accounting policies & procedures are in accordance with statutory regulations and global standards complying with risk management and internal controls.
  • Take charge of Finance, Accounts, and Taxation matters. Ensure that all accounting records are properly and timely maintained, and reporting cycles and other associated engagements are successfully performed in an effective and timely manner in accordance with the regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Prepare annual financial statements/ periodic financial statements and coordinate External Auditors to ensure the reports are prepared and presented to the Board for consideration and approval.
  • Prepare financial projections and budgets in line with the business plan and get these approved by management and the Board.
  • Ensure implementation of the proper accounting system for bookkeeping and operational support/MIS as per best industry practices.
  • Ensuring maintaining effective relationships and coordination with key stakeholders including related entities, government bodies, etc.
  • Ensure the independence of the Board from the financial operating matters.
  • Ensure the procurements functions comply with procurement policies, regulations, and approved budget

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education
  • CPA (T) along with a relevant master’s degree preferred in Accounting, Finance, or Equivalent


Experience
  • Experience of at least 10 years with at least 5 years at the head of department (senior management) level in the banking/ financial sector
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial management software (e.g. ORACLE)
