Sydney Scholarships| PhD, MPil-Fully Funded UNSW Sydney Research Sanctuary Scholarship
Eligibility
Be an asylum seeker or refugee currently holding one of the following visas:
o Temporary Protection Visa (Subclass 785)
o Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (Subclass 790)
o Bridging Visa A (BVA) (Subclass 010)
o Bridging Visa E (BVE) (Subclass 050 and 051)
o Temporary Humanitarian Concern Visa (Subclass 786)
o Humanitarian Stay (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 449)
o Global Special Humanitarian Visa (Subclass 202)*
o Protection Visa (Subclass 866)*
o Refugee Visa (Subclass 200, 201, 203 or 204)*
*If you are on a Visa that enables you to stay permanently in Australia, you may only apply within the first
24 months of arrival into Australia
• Must have met the entry requirements for a Higher Degree Research program at UNSW as specified in
the Admission to Higher Degree Research Program procedure

• Be enrolled in a full-time capacity
• Be experiencing financial hardship
• Not already
o have received another equivalent scholarship
o be enrolled in a degree program at an Australian Institution
o have already completed an equivalent degree
Selection Criteria
• Meets all eligibility requirements.
• Personal Statement indicating how their status has impacted their ability to conduct higher degree research.
How to apply
Step 1. Applicants should submit an application through Apply Online, indicating that they wish to be
considered for a scholarship

considered for a scholarship
Step 2. Once the PhD admissions applications has been successfully submitted, applicants should then
send the following documents to scholarships@eng.unsw.edu.au:
• A one-page personal statement indicating how your asylum seeker or refugee status has impacted
your ability to engage in higher degree research activities
• A copy of your current passport, or the travel documentation used to enter Australia to enable UNSW
to verify that you hold, one of the specified visas. Accordingly, a copy of one of the following
documents must be provided:
o Passport
o Immicard
o Titre de Voyage
o PLO56 (M56)
o Document For Travel To Australia (DFTTA)
Documentation and visa status will be checked using the Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO)
service.
Applicants should include their full name, potential supervisor, zID and application number.
All applications will be assessed by a Selection Panel comprising the Associate Dean Research,
Associate Dean (Equity and Diversity) and two other persons.
